First tram ride of the new line in Bratislava
On 19 December, a ceremonial tram ride took place in the Petržalka district on the newly built line that connects Jungmannova and Janíkovy dvorom. The investment, carried out by Aldesa, is a key step in the development of urban transport in the Slovak capital.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Bratislava Matúš Vallo, representatives of local organisations and residents, who enthusiastically welcomed the first test runs of the modern electric tram.
– I am very pleased that we were able to make such a pre-Christmas present to the citizens of Bratislava, and especially to the residents of Petržalka. I would like to thank my colleagues, the contractor and the delivery companies for their tremendous efforts on the day. I would like to thank the residents of Petržalka for the enormous patience with which they endured all the constraints associated with the construction of the Petržalka tramway. This important milestone of the first test run will be followed by finishing work on the platforms, adjacent buildings and permitting processes before the tram begins regular operation with travellers in the spring. However, we are delighted that we were able to fulfil our promise and experience the first test run with many passengers before Christmas – said the Mayor of Bratislava at the opening ceremony.
The tram line, several kilometres in length, was designed to improve the transport accessibility of one of Bratislava’s fastest growing districts. Thanks to the modern infrastructure, residents will gain a convenient means of transport that will reduce the traffic load in this part of the city. Although the first tram has already started its trial run, work is still underway to finalise the project. Platforms and associated elements are being finished and the line is scheduled to be fully operational in spring 2025.
