S19 Krosno – Miejsce Piastowe: test section delivered!

Aldesa - S19 Krosno – Miejsce Piastowe: test section delivered!

On the S19 expressway section connecting Krosno (formerly Iskrzynia) with Miejsce Piastowe, the laying of a 100-meter test section of pavement has been completed. This significant phase of the project allowed for the testing of technology and equipment, ensuring the durability and quality of the final road surface on this segment of the Via Carpatia route. A total of 200 tons of bituminous mixture was used for this test pavement.

Key Objectives of the Test Section

The main goal of this phase was to verify the correctness of the mineral-asphalt mixture recipe, which is crucial for the road’s durability. Another important aspect was testing the equipment used for producing, laying, and compacting the various layers of the pavement.

The test section also involved precise measurements of the thickness of the loose material layers and the number of passes required by the compaction equipment to achieve the desired density. These actions are essential to ensure that the road will meet all technical requirements for both durability and driving comfort.

Scope of work and progress on the section

The S19 Krosno – Miejsce Piastowe section, constructed under the “Design and Build” system, is a key part of the Via Carpatia route, linking northern and southern Europe. The project includes building a 10 km stretch of road with two lanes in each direction and an emergency lane.

Two road interchanges will also be constructed along this stretch. The Krosno interchange will connect the S19 expressway with National Road No. 19 and County Road No. 1973R, while the Miejsce Piastowe interchange will link with National Road No. 28. These solutions will enhance traffic flow in the Podkarpackie region, improving transportation conditions.

Currently, the work on this section is approximately 60% complete and project is progressing according to schedule. It is expected to be delivered in June 2025.
